As I was driving down the road one evening, I decided to listen to a CD
someone had let me borrow called "JESUS Freak" by DC Talk. Little did I
know
that God would teach me such a powerful lesson through the song "What if I
Stumble?" where I heard this quote:
"The single greatest cause of atheism today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." ~DCTalk prelude to "What if I stumble?" The single greatest cause of atheism is Christians? That struck my heart like a steel rod, so I started the song once more and listened to every word he said once again. The more I listened to him speak, I realized that what he said was true. Have you ever heard a skeptic say, "Christianity is such a fluke! How can you believe in a religion full of hypocrites?" How many times do we as Christians get up on Sunday morning, shower, pick out our best clothes, spray on a little perfume or cologne, and go to church to listen to a sermon, only to walk out the door and live our lives as WE want to, not as HE wants us to? I must admit that, that evening as I was in my car, I looked back on my week and asked myself if any of my actions could have pushed anyone a little bit closer to believing that there truly isn't anything worthwhile to believe in the Savior. I wear a cross everyday; a piece of jewelry telling everyone that I come in contact with that I believe in the God who came to earth as a man and paid the penalty for my sin on that cross. Did I do anything that could have denied my relationship with Christ in anyway? Sadly, of course, the answer is yes. Attitude, not spending quality time with Him, thinking and saying impure thoughts and words...all of these sins denied Christ due to my unwillingness to totally give my heart, soul, body, and mind to our Creator. We must remember that, everyday people watch us. The old saying goes, actions speak volumes. We must be very careful to monitor what our actions say to a world full of skeptics. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under the peck measure, but on the lamp stand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way the they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:14-16) }Jennifer Travis The GC |
