- Make your Website Visable on the Internet
If
you receive a forbidden error msg when trying to
view your web site for the first time, most likely
the permissions on your 'www' directory are not
world-readable. You can contact Smithville Digital
Technical Support for help, or you can change them
yourself. Please read below for steps on how to
fix this issue yourself: 1.
Telnet or ssh to ftp.bluemarble.net
2. Log-in with the username of the account you are working with.
3. When at the command prompt, type in 'webify' and press Enter on your keyboard.
4. You should see the following message: "Webify: Changing permissions
of files in your www directory. This allows others to view your web files."
5. type 'exit' at the command prompt.
6. You are done! Go try to view your webpage in a web browser once more. If
you have uploaded your website and have tried
to view its URL in a web browser and you get a
403
Forbidden Error, try the following steps to make
the webpage viewable
to the web: 1. Telnet or SSH to ftp.bluemarble.net. 2. Enter the username and password, of your account
that has web space. 3. From the prompt, type 'webify'. 4. Press [Enter] on your keyboard. 5. You should see something like the following: -su-2.05b$ webify Webify:
Changing permissions of files in your www directory. This
allows others to view your web files. 6. Your done! try to visit your website once again.
