Ping
test for Windows Computers on IU's VPN network
The following steps are to enable you to check to
ensure that your DSL connection is working when
you are attemtping to get online through the IU's
VPN network with a Windows computer. --------------------------------
Windows 98/ME second edition:
1. Click on 'Start'
2. Click on 'Run'
3. Type 'command' in the blank and click 'OK'
4. In the new black DOS window, type 'ping -l 16
129.79.1.1' and press enter.
5. If your DSL is working fine and getting you to
their network, you should see something like the
following:
Pinging 129.79.1.1 with 16 bytes of data: Reply
from 129.79.1.1: bytes=16 time<10ms TTL=252
Reply from 129.79.1.1: bytes=16 time<10ms TTL=252
Reply from 129.79.1.1: bytes=16 time<10ms TTL=252
Reply from 129.79.1.1: bytes=16 time<10ms TTL=252 Ping statistics for 129.79.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

6. There might be an issue with your DSL connection
or computer If you see the following instead:
Pinging 129.79.1.1 with 16 bytes of data: Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out. Ping statistics for 129.79.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

Windows 2000 Pro & Windows XP: 1. Click on 'Start'
2. Click on 'Run'
3. type 'cmd' in the blank and click 'OK'
4. In the new black DOS window, type 'ping -l 16
129.79.1.1' and press enter.
5. If your DSL is working fine and getting you to
their network, you should see something like the
following:
