How
to set up your dial up connection on a Windows
XP operating system:
1. Click on your START menu
2. Click on Control Panel
 3. You want to be in category view, so make
sure that is selected in the top left-hand
corner  This is what it will look like after you switch
to category view: 4. Click on Network and Internet Connections
(2nd icon down in left-hand column)

Choose “Set up or change your internet
connection”  6.
Now you will be looking at the “Internet
Properties” box  7.
Remove any connections already made (click
on them one time then click the “remove” button,
so that the box is empty)  8.
Click the “Add” button
9. Now you will see the “Internet Connection
Wizard”
10. Make sure that “dial up to private
network” is selected, choose next
 11. Type the phone number that you are dialing
up to, choose next  12.
Type the name that you wish to call your
connection (anything you want), choose “finish”  13.
Now you will see the “Settings” screen.
Make sure there is nothing checked on this
screen.
14. At the bottom of the screen type the username
and password that you set up with Smithville/Bluemarble
(leave “domain” blank), choose
OK
 15.
Now you will see the “Internet Properties” box
again
16. Make sure it says “(default)” next
to the connection you just created (should
be the only one there)
17. Make sure that “Always dial my default
connection” is selected and choose OK.

Now we’re back at the “Network
and Internet Connections” screen
19. At the bottom, choose the 2nd icon, “Network
Connections”
 20.
Right click on the new connection and choose “create shortcut” (this
will tell you that you cannot create a shortcut
here, do you want to place one on the desktop
instead? And you will choose “yes”)  21.
Now right-click on the new connection again
and choose “Properties.” This
brings up a new window. Click the “Networking” tab
in the back, and then click on “Settings.” This
will bring up another new window, “PPP
Settings” and you need to uncheck (click
on the box so that the checkmark goes away)
the first box, “Enable LCP Settings” and
click the “OK” button, the “OK” button
again on the next screen.  22. Now when you want to connect to the Internet
you will double click the new icon on your
desktop and choose to either Connect or Dial.
Once connected you have to open a browser window
(such as Internet Explorer or Netscape) to
surf the web!   |
