Dial up setup on a Windows NT operating system

Step 1: Check to make sure Dial-Up Networking/Remote Access is installed.

Dial-Up Networking/Remote Access is the component that Windows NT uses to access your modem. Without Dial-Up Networking/Remote Access, you will not be able to dial out from your modem.

1. From the desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.

2. Double-click on the Dial-up Networking icon. If Dial-Up Networking/ Remote Access in not installed, you will be prompted to copy files from your Windows NT source CD. After the files have been copied, you will be prompted to reboot your computer.

Step 2: Creating the Bluemarble Connection.

1. From the desktop, double-click the My Computer icon. Double-click on the Dial-up Networking icon.

2. When the Dial-up Networking window opens, click on New.

3. You should now see the first screen of the New Phonebook Entry Wizard. Enter BlueMarble in the Name the new phonebook entry box. Make sure there is a checkmark next to the "I know all about phonebook entries and would rather edit the properties directly" option. (This option allows you to edit your phonebook entries manually.) Click Finish.

4. A window will appear with five tabs at the top. Click on the Basic tab. Enter the telephone number given on your Start Here sheet in the Phone number box.

If you cannot find your dial-up telephone number on your Start Here sheet, please select the appropriate number from the following chart.

5. At the top of the window, Click on the Server tab. The Dial-Up server type needs to be set to PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet.

In the Network protocols section make sure there is no check in front of NetBEUI and IPX/SPX compatible, and that there is a check in front of TCP/IP.

Make sure the Enable software compression and Enable PPP LCP extensions options are checked.

6. Click on the TCP/IP Settings button. When the TCP/IP Settings windows appears, make sure the Server assigned IP address is selected. Next, select Specify name server addresses and enter the primary and secondary DNS numbers on your Start Here sheet. In every location the DNS numbers are following:

7. When you have entered these numbers in the appropriate boxes, click OK.

8. Click on the Script tab. Make sure that the login setting is set to None.


9. Click on the Security tab. Make sure that "Accept any authentication including clear text" is checked.

10. Click on the X.25 tab. The Network drop down menu should be set to None. Make sure that all other boxes are empty. Then click OK.


11. You should return to the Dial-up Networking window. Make sure that BlueMarble is selected in the Phonebook entry box, and click Dial.

12. After you click Dial, the Connect to BlueMarble window should appear. Enter your username, in all lower case, and then enter the password, again using proper case. Leave the domain field blank. Click OK.

You should now be connected to BlueMarble.net.
